You paid for a video. You used it once.

Media·5 min read

A business commissions a video, posts it, gets a few hundred views, and quietly concludes video does not work for them.

The video was fine. It was used once, in one place, for one week, and then it went in a folder nobody opens.

Footage is inventory, not a post

A shoot day produces far more usable material than the edit you asked for. Wide shots, cutaways, stills pulled from video, thirty seconds of someone explaining something clearly.

Treated as a post, that is one asset. Treated as inventory, it is the raw material for most of your marketing for the next year.

The difference is not budget. It is whether anyone decided in advance where it was all going.

Where the same footage goes

Plan the uses before the shoot

This is the part that actually changes the output. If you know the website needs a silent loop, you shoot something that reads without sound. If you know ads need vertical, you frame with room to crop.

Deciding afterwards is how you end up with beautiful horizontal footage and a feed that wants vertical, and a second shoot to fix it.

The unglamorous maths

One shoot day used in nine places costs a ninth as much per use as the same day used once.

Nothing about the filming changed. The only difference is that someone wrote down where it was going before the camera came out.
